Title Credits: Week 1
This term we have started looking at creating title credits for one of our favourite TV shows or films. This is to make us think about the overal design, mood and main themes of the story and think of a way to set up the viewer for what they are about to see. For the base of this project we are looking at the work of graphic designer Saul Bass who worked on the opening titles and posters for films such as The Man with the Golden Arm (1955) and Psycho (1960). His paper cut style will help us get an idea of how to portray the main points of the film in the opening credits.
The film that I will be creating the opeing titles for is Rush (2013), directed by Ron Howard, which tells the story of the rivalry between Formula 1 drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda during the 1976 season. Some element that I want to try and capture in this is the art style of the time and the idea of speed so I have been looking at old racing posters from around about that time, the image that is in the top left corner is from the 76 season and clearly shows Hunt and Lauda in their red and white cars.
