Title Credits: Rush Image Tests

Image
After I had worked out the different stages of the opening for the film Rush I sat about creating some images for the different points and to also try out the style that I hope to use for the animation, similar to using a storybroad. Image 1 Image 1 - The arrows are meant to be James Hunt and Niki Lauda when they are racing each other in their early years when their rivalry started. Image 2 Image 2 - This is one of two images that is meant to shown to Hunt winning against Lauda. Image 3 Image 3 - This is the second image of the two and shows Lauda winning against Hunt. Image 4 Image 4 - The next image shows the logos, at the time of the 1970s, of the two teams that Hunt and Lauda raced for in F1. On the left is the logo for McLaren which was the team Hunt raced for and on the right is the logo for Ferrari which was the team that Lauda raced for. Film Review: Mary and Max

Image
Fig 1. Mary and Max film poster (2009) The Australian film Mary and Max (2009) was directed and written by Adam Elliot and tells the story of two pen pals as they go through their challenging lives at a time when other peoples’ problems were not something that you would inquire about, be it lifestyle or mental. The film starts off in 1976 with young Mary Daisy Dinkle who lives in Australian with her distant father and alcoholic mother. One day she decides to write to someone out of a phone book to ask them about their life in New York, that person is Max Jerry Horowitz. Max himself is surprised by her letter and suffers an anxiety attack due to his social problems, but he decides to write back to Mary and soon the two become friends. As the years go by they learn to except each other, and themselves, for who they are and that their worlds are perfect even if it is not perfect. As the beginning of the film suggests it is based off a true story but it’s not completely clear

I did this to get a feeling for how I want the over fell of the animation to look and to work out how the Sun and Moon would be dressed. I had the idea that the two of them could be dressed as if they were a King and Queen as in many cultures the Sun and Moon are seen as the rulers of the sky.

Title Credits: Design Ideas and Keypoints

I have been thinking about the best way that I show the story of Rush in the time that I have and what it is that I need to show to set the mood of the film. As the film is based on a ture events I can get away with showing some of the main points of the story so this means that I'm not limited to what I can and can't show as many people would already know it. As the main theme of the film is speed I think that by using arrows for Hunt and Lauda for when they are racing each other, for the rest of the time I will use people in the same style as Saul Bass. I've also been trying to break down the film into 7 points to tell the story and in what way can I show it on the screen. 1 - Rivalry starts = Both of the arrows (Hunt and Lauda) are knocked off in their first race together but Hunt’s arrow keeps going while Lauda's is out of the race. 2 - Into F1 = Hunt joins McLaren, Lauda join Ferrari. This can also be used to show their personalities. 3 - The F1 races = Tha

After talking with Alan it seems that I have the ideas for my Sun and Moon animation, its just now that I have to start putting everything together as there are so many points that need looking at. The main thing that I need to think about is the way that I am going to tell the story, the main idea that I've had for this is doing it in the style of a poem and to help me get my head around how I'm going to write it so that it will tell the story I will be looking at the poems written by Spike Milligan. I will also like at the Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling as these stories are similar to the style of story that I'm telling with my animation, they explain things like how the Camel got it's hump and how the Leopard got it's spots. This might mean that I have to write out the poem a number of times to get it right so that it protrays to themes and mood that I'm trying to get across. Also, this is not the first time that the Sun and Moon have been used

Title Credits: Week 1

This term we have started looking at creating title credits for one of our favourite TV shows or films. This is to make us think about the overal design, mood and main themes of the story and think of a way to set up the viewer for what they are about to see. For the base of this project we are looking at the work of graphic designer Saul Bass who worked on the opening titles and posters for films such as The Man with the Golden Arm (1955) and Psycho (1960). His paper cut style will help us get an idea of how to portray the main points of the film in the opening credits.   The film that I will be creating the opeing titles for is Rush (2013) , di rected by Ron Howard , which tells the story of the rivalry between Formula 1 drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda during the 1976 season. Some element that I want to try and capture in this is the art style of the time and the idea of speed so I have been looking at old racing posters from around about that time, the image that is in the

After some time thinking about it I have decided to go with my stars mythos idea as I feel that I can have a lot of fun working out ideas for it. As for the style I have been thinking about using blocks of colour that has small details on the clothes. The main inspiration for this style is from looking at the outfits from the 2013 film Frozen. The way that the clothes hang off the body, trail along the floor as well as with the angles that they create seem to add to personality of the characters and catching the magic of the world. The style also helps to create a clean silhouette with not that many bumps and cuts. Another design idea I’ve had as come from looking the outfits worn by ballerinas as they seem to be designed to help tell the story that the dancers are portraying, which might help me tell the Sun and Moon’s story. There are still some parts of the idea that I still toying around with, such as: What way is the story going to be told? I think that the best way t

Pepper in Mudbox from Rhia Crouch on Vimeo . This is the first time that I have used Mudbox and I found it to be alot of fun, I also found it easier to create the model than in Maya as I wasn't having to move around each edge and vertices. I was also suprised by the detail that you can create.

Premise: First Ideas and Feedback

These are my first ideas for my premise project: Mythos styled story about the reason we have stars The basic idea of this is that it will tell the story of how and why the Sun created the stars for the Moon. The main idea that I have for this is that the Sun notices that the Moon is lonely as none is around at night to see then, so the Sun decides to do something about it so that people down on Earth would stay around at night. My own Urban legend tale Based around what I think is a church that is in a local graveyard near where I live. I don’t think I even seen it be used and the size of the outside doesn’t seem to fit with it being big enough to hold that many people in it. The Evil Princess This idea comes from a through I had about Evil Queens in fairy tales: If they are a Queen now then they must have been a Princess at some point. So, with this idea it’s designed to be more of a backstory for the character. Feedback: Out of all my ideas the mythos story about

Character Design: Lesson 10

For our last lesson we were each put into groups and where given an already existing show that we each had to design a new character for. The group that I was in was given the children's educational show Wild Kratts which is designed to help teach kids about different animals' biology and the way the human actions can have an effect on them. The show's main characters Martin (in blue) and Chris (in Green) I started to think about what types of characters were already in the show and what ones were missing that could be added. After coming up with a few ideas I decided to go with a Park Ranger character who would call the main characters if there was an animal in trouble.

Character Design: Props Ideas

Image
I haven't had that many ideas for the prop that my character could use but I do know that it has to help him get to the past in someway, I also felt that it had to be a hand held device so that it was easy to use. However, I also looked at a device that the characters could stand on as shown with drawings 1 and 6. After a while I desided to combine some of my ideas together, like drawings 5 and 4, as they where close to what I was aiming for and that lead to drawing 7 which I might take further.
